4-24 Challenge Winner!

I have to agree with Lori--scallops are fancy!  I remember when I used deco scissors to fancy up anything and everything.  Ahhh those were the days.  Now I use punches and dies to achieve fancy scallops.  Absolutely love them!

Speaking of love--I love Sandy's fancy scalloped purse!  Check it out!

I love the details and am dying to see her supply list.  Is that a hair tie?  Or beads on a string?  Did this start out as a pre-made scalloped paper circle or did she make it herself?  What line are those flowers from and why do I not own it?  When an item can stop and make me want to know more, it is a sure fire winner in my book!

Sandy you have one week to email me at dora@scrapstreet.com for your prize.  Please use Blog Winner in your title.  Goodies will be on their way to you!

Tomorrow is National Scrapbooking Day and we will be partying with challenges, a blog hop, and prizes!!!!!!!!!  Be sure to come on back and play!

Blooming Kind of Day...

Every spring my kids and I love to head down to the local garden store and find beautiful blooming flowers to fill our many empty pots. We pay close attention to keeping them blooming, but eventually they seem to fade away and lose their petals. So it is only natural that I am drawn to making them last through scrapping.

After working with many die cuts and papers over the past three years my new found love for felt and fabric has taken over my craft space. Today I wanted to bring you a short and easy step by step guide to making a beautiful blooming fabric flower.

1. Cut several layers of fabric, depending on the desired fullness you wish to have for your project.
2. Take the die cut fabric, separate layers or all together, and roll into a ball in your hands.

3. Assemble flower layers and sew, or stitch, to project in an "X" pattern.
Once you have attached the flower you can add embellishments such as buttons, adhesive rhinestones and pearls, or just leave it as is.

The great thing about these flowers is the more wrinkled the better.

Hope you have a wonderful day and thank you for allowing me to share this with you!

Ah, the beach!

I'm away on vacation this week! This is a scheduled post and as you're reading this, I am laying in the sun, belly up, like a beached whale...wait a minute, that's not exactly the metaphor I was going for. I apologize for the bad visual. To make it up to you, I'll share some inspiration. Here's a LO I made of DD at the beach a few years ago (no whales were harmed in the making of this LO):

Thinking of scrapping your own summer pics? I'm here to help! You'll be inspired by Webster's Pages new beach line and Graphic45 new beach line - or at least these are my personal favorites! Check them out, and see what you think! Leave a comment here - I want to know if you're already a fan, or if I managed to convert you :)

Puttin' on the Ritz

Heading out of town today for a wedding at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Atlanta.

I admit that I am more than a little nervous. Because, although I've never been there, I've heard that it's "fancy". And that the wedding and reception will be "fancy". And, I am just not a very fancy gal. My fingernails aren't manicured...they are broken and usually have dirt under them from working in the garden. My hair isn't styled...it's normally pulled back in a ponytail. I don't usually dress up...you will normally find me in comfy shorts, tee shirt, and tennis shoes. Give me a weedeater or a rake and I'm fine. Give me a room full of people in suits and cocktail dresses and I am sooo out of my element. I am excited about seeing my family though. And, while I joked with my uncle about showing up in my "best pair of overalls", I will be there...in a dress and heels. Still...THIS is more my idea of RITZ:

See the pretty scalloped edges on these crackers? Fancy, right? biggrin

Create something with scalloped edges and link back here by Thursday, April 29th for a chance to win a prize. Have fun!! Oh...and wish me luck on my night of "fancy".

4-17 Winner!

I am so sad that I did not get a chance to play with this week's challenge!  Especially after being inspired by Nicole's darling layouts.  I was certain I could use numbers on a fun, but simple, layout.  Sadly, it became one of those insanely busy weeks that stole all of my time.  Maybe I will have a chance to complete it AND the new one that Lori posts tomorrow.

This week's winner is Krystle with her darling 2 page layout:

Look at that darling banner!  And the fun mixture of flowers to emphasize her girly birthday.  We won't tell Kyrstle that her little princess will way too soon be celebrating her 18th birthday, too.  Krystle you have one week to email me at dora@scrapstreet.com for your prize.  Please use Blog Winner in your title.  Goodies will be on their way to you!

Run out of thickers?

If you happen to run out of thickers (my favorite embellishment) you could try something different for your title! Simply type your title in different colors on the cardstock. Ususally, I will test it on a piece of paper first so that the cardstock is not wasted if the title is not printed in the right position. Feel free to do the same thing with your journaling! Take a look at my example. Pretty neat huh?

Get inspired!

Hello scrappers!

Remember those little candy dots when you were a kid? I remember having fun, plucking them one by one and popping them in my mouth. The other day I got to thinking about them and I instantly became INSPIRED! I decided to try making my own pop dots on my layout using paint! I totally love how this turned out!! Go ahead and try it. Simply hold the bottle of paint above the layout and gently sqeeze so that the paint falls and forms into little drops on your paper! It really is that easy!

My daughter turned 18 two days ago.
I'm still not really sure how it happened. I was standing next to my little girl, turned my head for a second, and when I turned around...there was this young WOMAN standing in her place. I don't understand it. I'm pretty sure there must be some sort of new math involved. And possibly magic. And probably has something to do with that "space-time continuum" thing that those time traveling sci-fi movies are always mentioning .

It's sad and exciting and horrible and wonderful all at the same time.

For a month, I've been nostalgic and a bit obsessed with numbers. My head has been full of stories that start with: "remember when she was 5 and..." or "remember when I was 18 and....".

So I've decided to share my number obsession for this week's challenge. Use a number on a card or in the title or visible journaling on a layout. Link back here by Thursday, April 22nd, for a chance to win a prize. Have fun!!

4-10 winner!

Are you feeling the joy of spring?  I certainly am!  I put on my capri pants for the very first time just today.  Heaven in the form of 70 degree weather.

When Spring begins to bloom, I reach for brighter colors.  I want to shake off the winter doldrums and reach for those happy flower shades.  This layout by Brittney Calgary evokes my mood perfectly.  I love the bold pink flower with hints of softer yellow, green, and blue.  I also adore her attention to shape with scallops and stitching softening her edges.  Delightful!

Take a peek at Brittney's blog the rest is still unwritten to see more of her lovely work.  Brittney you have one week to email me at dora@scrapstreet.com for your prize.  Please use Blog Winner in your title.  Goodies will be on their way to you!

Lori will be in tomorrow with a fabulous new challenge.  Have a scrappy weekend!

Congratulations Returning Staff!

I know that I am prejudiced, but I happen to believe we have the best team ever!  Every month they work their creative tushies off to produce a magazine filled with inspiration for every level of scrapper with something for paper, hybrid, and digi scrappers alike.  Not an easy task, but they more than make it work.

The end of a contract year brings excitement and sadness.  Some staff move on to new endeavors and others are asked to return for another year.  A few additional staff members are promoted to a Senior Staff helping to train new staff, fill in where needed, and do many of the other jobs that keep our site and magazine humming along.

Although it is the end of one year, it is the beginning of another which brings a different type of excitement and sadness.  We are thrilled to welcome some talented new staff members, but sad to not be able to take all of the amazing women who applied.  We are sending our invitations out today and will announce our new seven staffers tomorrow!

Today, we are so excited to announce the return of seven simply amazing team members.  Please join us in cheering for:

Jennifer Wuthrich

 Stacey Michaud

 Lindsey Krauss

 Diana Brouder

 Janis Medina-Maghinay

 Brianne Nevill

 Nicole Martel

Congratulations again, ladies!  Join us tomorrow to see our newest seven!  Happy Sunday!

Ahhhh....spring time. Isn't it glorious? It's my favorite time of the year. The grass is turning green, the birds are building new homes, the flowers are beginning to bloom. Even the vegetable seeds we planted, just a week ago, are starting to sprout. Everything has a fresh, NEW feeling to it and it makes me view life in a fresh NEW way. Every time the season rolls around, I just feel READY. Ready to clean out the clutter in my house. Ready to tackle all the chores that built up over winter. Ready to make my yard as beautiful as possible.

Unfortunately, this feeling usually fades in a few weeks and I'm over it by summer...*giggle*. But when spring is in the air, anything is possible.

For this week's challenge, grab some of that spring energy and apply it to your projects. Maybe you will be inspired by spring flowers. Perhaps you will scrap about something "new" like a baby's first steps or your son's first swimming lesson. So many possibilities for this one. Create something and link it back here by Thursday for a chance to win a prize. Can't wait to see what you do!

Blog challenge 4/3/10

Happy Easter!!!

Is decorating eggs part of your Easter tradition?

My kids are 15 and almost 18 and we STILL dye eggs every year. I pretend it's because they enjoy it so much but I know it's really the other way around. They do it because they know I love it. What can I say?...I'm still a kid at heart. And it's just not Easter without pretty eggs. Well, that and chocolate bunnies of course.

Take a look at these Ukrainian Easter eggs called Pysanky. Designs are "written" on the egg in hot wax with a stylus or a pin-head. Then they are dipped into a series of dyes, light to dark, with more wax decorating done between colors. The final step is to melt away the wax and reveal the designs. So detailed and SO beautiful!

How will these eggs inspire you? Create something and link back here by midnight on Thursday. On Friday, we will select a prize winner. Have fun!!
