Happy Birthday

Happy Thursday everyone! Scrapstreet Feature Writer, Aymee Gandy, here today to share a card with you. My 27th birthday is this coming Monday and it has put me in the mood to celebrate. I always need an extra birthday card in my scrappy stash, so I sat down and created this simple easel card. I used my Cricut and Gypsy to cut out the sentiment and the cupcakes from the 'Create A Critter' Cartridge. I also incorporated some embossing using my Cuttlebug, Stickles glitter glue, ball fringe trim, a cupcake liner, and some rhinestones. This patterned paper is from Sassafras Lass.

Have a fabulous weekend and Happy Scrappin'!

SAYING THANK YOU

I admit I am guilty of not saying thank you enough. An act of kindness - - regardless of how simple it is - - deserve a smile, a tap on the shoulder, some kind words...

Supplies: Papers: Upsy Daisy Designs, Pearl Pin: Maya Road, Ink: Ranger Industries, Pen: Sakura, Others: cardtock, twine. Tools: Border Punch: Fiskars.

Try saying thank you. It truly feels wonderful to say and mean it - - much more for the one who receives it.

PURPLE CHALLENGED (Prequel to Chic Street's October Issue)

It's true - - while I am able to play with almost all of the colors, I find purple the most challenging. You can count with one hand the number of layouts that I have done using primarily this color, although the funny thing is, I always almost like the resulting projects.

Supplies: Paper: Bo Bunny, All About Scrapbooking, Upsy Daisy Designs, K & Company, Flowers, Pebble: Prima Marketing, Alphabet Stickers: American Crafts, Ball Trim: Bo Bunny, Paint: Making Memories, Ribbon: All About Scrapbooking, Chipboard: Little Yellow Bicycle, Other: charm, leaves, twine, ribbon. Tool: Edge Punch: Martha Stewart Crafts.

At Chic Street next month, we're going to be featuring this hot color - - PURPLE!!! Be sure to tune in as we're gonna give you a whole lot of inspiration on using this color!!!

Make sure to check out our issue October 1st!!!

Have fun creating,
janis

Are you all ready for fall?

Ready for back to school, the cooler weather, the leaves changing colors....ok, ok, what I REALLY mean is - are you all ready to scrap some fall layouts?? LOL This is a scrapbooking blog, after all :) But yes, when I feel the cooler weather it does make me want to scrap some layouts in fall colors. I'm getting tired all of those beach pages I made this summer! Time for the warm, deep reds and blues and oranges. Time for crochet and velvety flowers. You get the idea. Lots of fall lines debuted this summer from many of the most popular manufacturers which does make scrapping fall that much more fun! Here are a couple pages from me to get your creative juices flowing a little (Hmm...I'm not really big on that expression, not sure why I used it :)

Using Echo Park and Creative Charms:

Using 3 Birds products:

Again, Echo Park and Creative Charms:

And some pretty fall pics to get you ready for what's in store:

And last (but DEFINITELY) not least, my DD from about 5 years ago....just because :)

Autumnal Freebie

Welcome to our Wednesday Freebie! This week we have a beautiful autumnal alpha for you in lovely, swirly, pearlised shades of fall. With uppercase letters and numbers and a sprinkle of punctuation, this will make super monograms or titles for your layouts! Drop shadows are for the preview only.

You can download the alpha *Link Removed* and have fun with it!

Today is a very special day!!

What so special about it, you ask? It's my Birthday, of course!! LOL (And that's why this is being posted a bit late). I got to have a little break and some time to myself, so I spent the time doing an "Today I am 32" LO - I'll share it a little later with you. I used G45 Halloween in Wonderland pp because well, I like it. So my point in sharing this is to encourage you to use pp you like for any occasion, whether it has anything to do with it or not. You do not have to be so "matchy-matchy". use Christmas pp for a wedding or summer LO, use Fall pp for a baby LO, it really doesn't matter - as long as you like the pp, you like the photo, and feel inspired to use both, go for it!

But while I'm at it, I wanted to share some "Birthday" pp with you that's not necessarily for birthdays (in the spirit of this post and all :) I think it's no secret that I love Webster's Pages and they have a wonderful new line for the Holidays called "Sweet Season". I think this pp would be great for any sweet birthday ;)

Saturday Challenge 9/18

It is time to celebrate the big September holiday. No, not Labor Day. In my hometown, September means time for the annual county fair. It is a big event. It kicks off with a big parade that practically shuts down half the town. And the schools will even be closed next Monday for "fair day".

I enjoy the fair...though I could skip the rides. I like walking around and talking to people (in a town this size, you can bet money you will see someone you know). I like the smell of popcorn and hot pretzels and funnel cakes. I like seeing the lights and watching people play games.

But my favorite part is seeing all of the exhibits. I know, strolling through tents full of 800 pound pumpkins and jars of 20 different varieties of pear preserves is all more than a bit Mayberry-ish. But I think that is the reason I like it. In our stressed-out, fast-paced, high-tech lives, there is just something soothing about seeing a sweet potato pie with a big blue ribbon attached to it.

The ones that really amaze me are the sewing/quilting exhibits. Probably because I find it challenging to sew on a loose button. But still, these people are truly artists.
This week's scrappy challenge is to find a photo of a quilt, and lift it in some way. Link your brand new creation back here, along with the link to the photo. Have fun!!

Happy Anniversary ScrapStreet!

Can you believe we have spent FIVE years together already?  Oh the places we have been and the growth we have enjoyed!  Big kisses to all of you!

I did my grocery shopping early this week and the Halloween candy lined the aisles.  I resisted.  Lets face it--if I get it now, I will eat it long before the holiday.  However, it did get me in the mood to start my Halloween designing.  I put together a little set of epoxy stickers for you as this week's freebie.  I hope you enjoy.

Comments are appreciated!  Have a super week!

Sneaking Up

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
“Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door –
Only this, and nothing more.” – Edgar Allan Poe

Halloween is one of my favorite days of the year. Unfortunately, it usually sneaks up on me and then I run out of time to put any decorations up or create any cards. Not this year though! I intend on getting a head start this time around. I have a few cards I made last year that never got sent out. I plan on working on a few more cards this month as well as starting to make my Halloween decorations. How about you? Do you decorate for Halloween or send out cards? I’d love to see what you have created. I am always looking for new Halloween decorating ideas.

Until next time!

Countdown to Christmas 2010

Seriously...there is an actual countdown going on right now. As I write this post, the official countdown is 107 sleeps, 6 hours, 4 minutes and 27 seconds. Don't believe me? See it right HERE. Told you so! Are you scared yet?
I've always planned to make a handmade advent calendar. It hasn't happened yet, but I'm determined to make one this year. There are some adorable ideas online. Here are a few of my favorites:
This adorable advent garland from the Bella Boulevard blog;
Super cute wallhanging featuring the Cottage Christmas collection by Imaginisce;
Yummy little muffin tin countdown from Alisha Gordon for American Crafts;
Oh-my-cuteness mini gift tins by Kelleigh Ratzlaff;
Cookie sheet advent calendar by starrgirl17 (I just can't get enough of Sassafras Lass' Life at the Pole collection!);
and lastly, Danni Reid's charming countdown drawers are perfect for little treats.
I hope that these fabulous advent calendar ideas spark your creativity. Will this be the year that you make an advent calendar for your family? Tell you what, we'll do it together, OK?

Record in Art

Not the vinyl kind, the actual kind!
See, art of scrapbooking is pretty, sure, but the record is essential.

So many pages are completed and for the sake of art perhaps, the record is left off. I wonder, if our scrapbooking pages are designed to last hundreds of years, if our ancestors reading our pages will know everything they need to know? I am certainly one of the guilty ones that forgetfully leaves out details.

So here is your friendly reminder. Some way, some how, go back to the basics and make sure your essential information is on your page.

A checklist, perhaps?

  • name(s)
  • date
  • age(s)
  • location
  • short story
Journaling really is necessary, even if it's just a few fine details.

Things to do to preserve the record:
  1. scrapbook a calendar. Be it a month or a week. Maybe you alter the top of a paper calendar, maybe you add a mini calendar to your page (a la bingo card-style?)
  2. add the essential information: hide it, artfully supply it, or get it big and bold. How is up to you, why is not.
  3. have an old vinyl lying around? break it, use it, take a picture of it, alter it.
Ok, so the last one's just for fun, but you get what I mean, right? Don't forget why we do this thing we do. Ask yourself, the next time you finish your next out-of-this-world page, will your great great grandchildren know what it's all about?

Plucked a few examples out of the gallery. Great examples!
