Photoshop In A Browser?

Before you spend any money on PSP, PSE, PS CS, and would like to try your hand at creating digital art, why not start with SUMO Paint. Sumo is one of the new "Web 2.0" web based applications. It's a very close clone to Photoshop but without the built in bloat. It's being touted as the most advanced online image editing software around and it's not just for correcting "red eye". It actually has an easy-to-learn interface and Photoshop users will love the familiarity of it. Be sure your browser is up to date with Adobe Flash as SUMO is a Flash based application, meaning it will open in your browser. I have personally tested SUMO Paint in Opera v. 9.52, Internet Explorer v. 7.0, and Firefox v. 3.03 and it worked without a hitch. Nothing to download and install and it's FREE!

Sumo's features include;
  • 1. Shape tools
  • 2. Layers with blending modes.
  • 3. Brush Tool- settings for size, opacity, scatter, random rotate, and gravity.
  • 4. Ink tool-Creates realistic ink impressions with options for "ink wetness" look.
  • 5. Text tool
  • 6. Eraser tool
  • 7. Filters
  • 8. Gradient tool
  • 9. Gravity for Vectors-similar to Photoshops Pen tool.
  • 10. Shape Trails-Creates ghost trails for the shape given, creating an interesting and cool effect. Shape trails are available in Rectangle, Circle, Pie, Star, Round Star and Blade Star.
  • 11. Custom Shape Tool-The SUMO Paint custom shape tool lets you draw your own custom shapes and fills the shape when the mouse button is released.
  • 12. Symmetry tool-allows you to draw some intricate mandala-like drawings very quickly.
  • 13. Transform tool
  • 14. Lasso tool
  • 15. Smudge tool
  • 16. Blur tool
  • 17. Line tool
  • 18. Curve tool
  • 19. Zoom tool
  • 20. Selection Modify
  • 21. Color Picker
  • 22. Swatches
  • 23. Saving Images with multiple layers
  • 24. Select Pixels
  • 25. SUMO paint start view
  • 26. Support for Cool Iris 3D Gallery-Browser Plugin, optional.
Having not read any tutorials prior to trying SUMO, I found the import/export feature a big surprise!

If you'd like to join the SUMO community, look under File, there's a login/register option for free membership. It's another great feature for uploading your art into your own online gallery and unlike other photo apps it doesn't have hooks into social sharing sites like Flickr and Facebook.

SUMO Paint is currently in beta, but the gold release of the web-based application is expected later in the fall. SUMO Paint is being offered by Finnish-based Snap Group Ltd.
Ready to try it? Click on this link and off you go! Have fun playing with SUMO!

Thursday Outlines

We are fast coming to a close with the commercial freebies, as the end of the month draws near. Today I have some Floral Outlines for you. These are quite large (over 6inches in width) and are ideal for you to use as digital stamps as they are in PNG form.

You can easily add a style to them as I have with the glitter ones or colour them in or fill in with papers. Print them out and paint or use your inks for a hybrid twist! Turn them into PS shapes or brushes. I have included two black outlines and the 2 glittered ones. The link expired, but they are in the store bundled up in the $1 spot!

Thursday is Shaping Up

Yes Thursday is shaping up for a freebie! I have been busy and suffering at the same time with a bad head cold, thanks to my eldest son. The rest of us have all come down with it in time for the youngest's birthday.... joy of joys! So sorry I wasn't able to post more freebies before now...

Today at least, I have managed to do a little freebie you can use personally or commercially. Some floral Photoshop shapes. I have included a small version of the PNG's for those who do not have PS. If I ever get the time and a clear head I will post a larger version of the PNG...let me know via the comments.

So just drop the .CSH object into your PS presets file or whichever folder you may keep your shapes in and have fun.

Link expired, get them in store with other goodies bundled up in the $1 spot!

Brushes Away

Thursday already! Where do the days go to? I know some of you have been wondering about the Boys Toys Elements from the All At Sea kit that Sue Woods has done. They will be posted as soon as she is well enough. Poor Sue has been in bed with flu and a throat infection for over a week.

I am a hoarder you know. Especially of Photoshop brushes. I have several gigabytes of them on my hard drives and I cannot possibly have used a tenth of them! Yet I still collect them free or bought. Sound familiar?

So with brushes in mind, here is another little freebie for you all. Suitable for personal or commercial use - they are ideal for making textures or patterns on papers and small tag type elements.

Based on some very old French drawings, I scanned them as best I could given they are crumbling away and created some little brushes. Not big brushes, but pretty little florals that you can colour in and change the blend modes for a variety of looks. I have included them as a PNG for those who do not use Photoshop or where the brush won't work in your version. There is also a coloured version of one so you can see how they look filled in.

Find them bundled up in store in the $1 spot - never know what bargains you will find!

Monday Freebie

Well here is another freebie for you! This time it is a pack of 2 beautifully textured Easy Overlays. You may use these personally or commercially (provided you alter them in some way). Try different blending modes or play with the hue or saturation levels. Stack them up like pancakes!

They will be around for a while, then off to the store they go....

Thursday Birthday Thoughts

Well if you have been reading the homepage of ScrapStreet you will know that ScrapStreet is turning 3 on 15th September. A noteable date for me - it is my "ex" wedding anniversary, is the day before my son's 13th birthday, is the birthday of a dear "old" friend back in UK, is a couple of days away from my parents wedding anniversary and was the day of the Battle Of Britain. Oh and not forgetting it is our beloved Dora's birthday month as well!!

So to celebrate in style I am cooking up some sweet treats for you all. I don't tend to do Commercial Use stuff, but that is out of the window this month. Stay tuned to the blog as I will pop freebies here there and everywhere, all of them available for personal or commercial use! Just don't share the link please, come here for your goodies!

How's that for a great birthday celebration? To get us rolling along here is the first freebie, some cupcakes I did for a challenge in the ScrapStreet Anniversary party that is going on in the Town Square forum. Add colours, styles etc to these and you will have yourself a fun set of cupcakes!

I will leave these birthday goodies around for a while and then package them up to go into the digi $ spot in the ScrapStreet Store, so be sure to check back often this month if you want them for free.

Link has expired, but see them in the $1 spot in store!

New Vocabulary

Well maybe not new to everyone, but this is not something I had seen before so I thought I would share it! A collection of essential workplace (and elsewhere) words to add to your vocabulary this week from the Sayings blog.

BLAMESTORMING : Sitting around in a group, discussing why a deadline was missed or a project failed, and who was responsible.

TERDBIRD : A manager, who flies in, makes a lot of noise, craps on everything, and then leaves.

ASSMOSIS : The process by which some people seem to absorb success and advancement by kissing up to the boss rather than working hard.

CUBE FARM : An office filled with cubicles.

PRAIRIE DOGGING: When someone yells or drops something loudly in a cube farm and peoples heads pop up over the walls to see what’s going on.

MOUSE POTATO: The on-line, wired generation’s answer to the couch potato.

SITCOMs : Single Income, Two Children, Oppressive Mortgage. What Yuppies get into when they have children and one of them stops working to stay home with the kids.

STRESS PUPPY: A person who seems to thrive on being stressed out and whiny.

SWIPEOUT : An ATM or credit card that has been rendered useless because magnetic strip is worn away from extensive use.

IRRITAINMENT : Entertainment and media spectacles that are Annoying but you find yourself unable to stop watching them.

PERCUSSIVE MAINTENANCE: The fine art of whacking the crap out of an electronic device to get it to work again.

SEAGULL SPHERE : The rarefied organizational layers beginning just above the rank and file. Decisions that fall from the sphere are often profoundly inappropriate or irrelevant to the problems they were designed to solve.

404 : Someone who’s clueless. From the World Wide Web error Message “404 Not Found,” meaning that the requested site could not be located.

GENERICA : Features of the American landscape that are exactly the same no matter where one is, such as fast food joints, strip malls, and subdivisions.

OHNOSECOND : That minuscule fraction of time in which you realize that you’ve just made a BIG mistake. (Like after hitting send on an email by mistake).

So true aren't they?

Here is a little freebie for you this week. I had this done a while ago, but changed up the elements. A sweet and pretty mini kit aptly named BonBon (sweets in French).

As usual this is free for about a week or so and then moves into the Digi Dollar Spot in the ScrapStreet Store. Grab it here and enjoy!

A Little Learning

It is that Back to School time in a lot of countries...I have two more weeks to go, but the shops are full of school supplies. So for this week let's consider school, learning and education.

Knowledge is learning something every day. Wisdom is letting go of something every day. Zen Proverb

Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire. W.B. Yeats

Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils. Louis-Hector Berlioz

The important thing is never to stop questioning. Albert Einstein

A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops. Henry Adams

Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday. John Wayne

An intellectual is someone who has found something more interesting than sex. Edgar Wallace

When a teacher calls a boy by his entire name it means trouble. Mark Twain

Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself. Chinese Proverb

To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society. Theodore Roosevelt

I have been described as a lighthouse in the middle of a bog: Brilliant but useless. Connor Cruise O'Brien.

I am always ready to learn, but I do not always like being taught. Winston Churchill

You have one mouth and two ears. You should listen twice as much as you speak. Unknown

This week's freebie is of course another alpha! Great for those Back to School LO Titles. If you are a paper scrapper, why not create your title with the words and print out onto card and then use on your LO?

As usual this is free for a week and then will disappear into the digi dollar spot in store along with a blue version, so two for the price of one!

Get your copy here. Sorry link expired. See the ScrapStreet Store for more alphas.

Some Pooh Thoughts...

Winne the Pooh thoughts that is.. LOL! I am a true fan of Pooh and his friends and there are some memorable quotes to be found in A.A. Milne's books.

Here are a few... see if you can guess which quote is whose:

It's not very pleasant in my corner of the world at three o'clock in the morning. But for people who like cold, wet, ugly bits it is something rather special.

For I am a Bear of Very Little Brain, and long words Bother me.

Just because an animal is large, it doesn't mean he doesn't want kindness.

If the person you are talking to doesn't appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.

Promise me you'll never forget me because if I thought you would I'd never leave.

I used to believe in forever, but "forever" is too good to be true.

Nobody can be un-cheered with a balloon.

My spelling is Wobbly. It's good spelling, but it Wobbles, and the letters get in the wrong places.

I have my friends. Somebody spoke to me only yesterday.

I think that I have just remembered something. I have just remembered something that I forgot to do yesterday and shan't be able to do tomorrow.

When you are a Bear of Very Little Brain, and you Think of Things, you sometimes find that a Thing which seemed very Thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it.

.... and to go along with those quotes here is a lowercase hunnypot tag alpha for you . The letters are sunk into the 'hunny' but there is hole to nail it up with!
This is available here on our blog for a week and then it will move into the digi dollar spot in the store - along with some numbers and punctuation.

Get your copy and enjoy! Sorry the link has expired

Before I go I made a mistake with the letter B from last week's Agean Seas Alpha, so for those of you who downloaded it, here is the correct version!

you can get that for a week Sorry the link has expired.

Thursday, August 7, 2008

I have some interesting and useless information about a variety of words for you this week as well as a freebie...

"karate" means "empty hand."
"samba" means "to rub navels together.
"Kemo Sabe" means "soggy shrub" in Navajo.
"Rhythms" is the longest English word without vowels.
No word in the English language rhymes with month, orange, silver, and purple.
The double X in a word is common in the Maltese language.
"Dreamt" is the only English word that ends in the letters "mt".
"Stewardesses" is the longest word typed with only the left hand; "lollipop" with your right.
The words 'racecar,' 'kayak' and 'level' are the same whether they are read left to right or right to left (palindromes).
The world's largest alphabet is Cambodian, with 74 letters.
The Hawaiian alphabet has 12 letters.
TYPEWRITER is the longest word that can be made using the letters only on one row of the keyboard.
The longest one-syllable word in the English language is "screeched."
A pregnant goldfish is called a twit.
The only 15 letter word that can be spelled without repeating a letter is "uncopyrightable".
"Euouae," a medieval music term, is the longest word in English that contains only vowels. It’s also the word with the most consecutive vowels.
"Bookkeeper" is the only English word that has three consecutive double letters.

So now you know all that, here is your alphabet to make up your own words...

This uppercase alphabet co-ordinates with Scrapstreet's August free kit Agean Seas.
Get the alpha here
for a short time and the free kit in store .

If you miss the alpha, it will be in store in the Digi Dollar Spot later this month.

Sorry the alpha link has expired, but you can buy the Agean Seas Alpha in the ScrapStreet Store next week for $1.

Wednesday Inspiration - i'm lost, point me out?

I am infatuated with road signs. Every where I look (or turn, as the case may be), I am always actively noticing road signs.

Here's the story: When I was little, we were an often-traveling Army family. Mode of transportation was, of course, car in the United States, twice across the United States. Dad told my brother & I this story - The Story of Falling Rock. He was a young Native American boy who had gotten lost amid the mountains. So it was my brother's and my job to look for young Falling Rock as we drove across the U.S., especially when we saw the watch for falling rock road signs.

Once I realized the magnificent and slightly genius ploy behind Dad's story, I still realized my eyes were ever watching road signs. Arrows, colors, directions, you name it - I'm watching it.

Oh, don't even get me started on my obsession with studying traffic patterns. Doug can fill ya in on that one. =)

So, why not some arrow freebies (or almost free)?
